Friends of Beacon Fell Hay Meadow

The Friends of Beacon Fell are a group of volunteers who support activity and conservation works at this important country park in the south west of the AONB.

The Friends of Beacon Fell are establishing a wildflower meadow close to the Bowland Visitor Centre and they have been working with the HayTime project to grow plants from locally collected seeds. As the flowering season drew to a close they needed to cut the hay, so with a grant from Champion Bowland they sent two volunteers on a 'Learn to Scythe' course, held at Lancashire's very own Coronation Meadow in Slaidburn. They also purchased two scythe kits and hay rakes so that they can assist at other hay making sites as well as their own meadow in the future.

Well done to Nick, Pat and Ted!
